Amphibian Tiger sculpture by *Brooke-star Talk about imagination! A fantastic and excellently rendered surreal creation--an amphibious tiger. With this sculpture, we could almost believe he's real...

Description

*UPDATE* As of January 2012, 50% of the proceeds from the sale of this print will be donated to ZSL's Tiger SOS fundraising campaign. Prints: [link]
Tigers are one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet (probably my favourite animal!) and the number of Sumatran tigers left in the world is less that 300 and dwindling. Over the last decade, the wild tiger population has been decimated, with a massive 95% drop in numbers. This is disgraceful and largely down to us humans destroying their habitats and poaching them. What a great species, eh. ZSL (the Zoological Society of London) is running a fundraising scheme in order to support their three tiger conservation projects in Indonesia. They are also developing a state-of-the-art tiger conservation headquarters here in London. As a tiger-lover, I want to contribute funds to this fantastic cause and am going to be doing so by donating 50% of the money from sales of this print to Tiger SOS. Your purchase will be greatly appreciated by both myself and the tigers.

EDIT: August 1st 2011 - WOW!!!!!!! Thank you so so much for the DD!!!! I'm thrilled, I really am... Considering that this was my first (proper) sculpture, i'm soooo happy that people like it - more to come, I think!! Thank you for all of your kind comments :)

EDIT: May 2011 - This piece has just been shown on the BBC's 'Show Me The Monet' program on the teeeeveeee! :)

So, this is the result of my 7 week FX course! (Millennium FX's Prosthetics/Special FX Makeup course - highly recommended if you're in the UK and interested in this sort of work)

My first proper sculpture in WED clay, then first mould-making in fibreglass (painful memories!), and first silicone pouring and painting :)

I'm so happy with it! Thought it had all gone wrong in the moulding stage, but then it turned out pretty cool once the eyes and whiskers were in. Painting with silicone was a major challenge as it needs to be built up in very thin translucent layers, so that took a bit of getting used to.

A huge thank you to my tutor Pete Tindall for all his help and guidance :D [link]

Hope you like it! Would love to hear some feedback on this first piece!

Took 4 weeks from start to finish.
